Positively Black in Southwestern Ontario
Positively Black in Southwestern Ontario (PBSWO) is a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) sponsored community-based project working with an interdisciplinary team of Black scholars and different stakeholders across Southwestern Ontario (SWO).
The project explores the unique and under-documented forms of marginalization negotiated by Black youth across five cities in SWO, such as London, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, St. Thomas, and Windsor.
The core mission of PBSWO is to provide high-quality research using evidence-based strategic plans and policies to improve the holistic development of Black youth throughout Southwestern Ontario communities.
The vision of PBSWO is to be the trusted leader and preferred information hub in projecting the positivity of Black youth and shaping Black youth research in Southwestern Ontario communities.
Universities within Canada participating in this project include Western University, King’s University College at Western University, University of Windsor, Toronto Metropolitan University, and University of Toronto Scarborough.
The Challenge
The Positively Black in Southwestern Ontario (PBSWO) team encountered difficulties in finding someone competent and skillful to create a website for their project.
The Solution
The Positively Black in Southwestern Ontario (PBSWO) team approached EUNY BESPOKE MEDIA to develop and design a website for their project.
EUNY BESPOKE MEDIA came on board and worked as a Digital Media Specialist for their project. We began by reading their project proposal and taking notes to help us understand their project effectively.
With our website knowledge and overall marketing and communications skills, we developed a sitemap, key messaging, and a strategic plan.
We managed digital content creation using search engine optimization (SEO) on the community-based SSHRC-funded project’s website housed within the Western University web portal.
With our Founder’s educational background in international development, we incorporated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into the project’s strategy to align with the holistic development of Black youth in SWO.
We attended weekly meetings to keep the PBSWO team well-informed about the website’s progress.
We oversaw the website’s design, functionality and layout and liaised with the PBSWO team to ensure brand consistency.
Our journalistic and marketing writing styles came into use as we interviewed 13 university researchers from Western University, King’s University College at Western University, the University of Windsor, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the University of Toronto Scarborough. We wrote their biographies that highlight their expertise on the subject matter.
Examining the project’s target audience, we created social media accounts (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and integrated these social media accounts to their website.
The Positively Black in Southwestern Ontario team describes our work ethic:
“Efficient and Trustworthy”
